Administration of Business Times Budding Artists Fund

The Business Times and The Old Parliament House Limited (TOPH) play the role of fund-raisers for the fund - they collaborate with different partners, from corporate organisations to interested individuals, for various fund-raising efforts.

Supporters who donate more than S$100 to BTBAF will receive tax-exemption of 250%.

Fundraising expenses and the administration of the Fund by The Old Parliament House Limited (TOPH), a non-profit arts organisation with charity status, will not exceed 30% of the funds raised.

How Much Does Your Beneficiary Receive?

A beneficiary will be funded up to 90% of the training fees for two years’ training (worth $3000) at the The Little Arts Academy (LAA). In addition, the Fund may also be used to pay for the musical instruments, exam fees and all necessary materials required during training. The beneficiary may also apply for reimbursement of transport costs incurred. An annual review will be undertaken by the Board of Trustees to assess the continued suitability of the beneficiary. 

Rules and Regulations

  1. Funding is limited to a maximum period of 2 years only.
  2. Beneficiaries who are deemed by the management of The Business Times Budding Artists Fund (BTBAF) to show strong artistic potential and talent must re-apply to receive funding beyond the 2 years.
  3. A notice of acceptance will be sent to all successful applicants. Applicants are allowed to attend the arts training programmes sponsored by BTBAF only if they are deemed to have met the eligibility criteria of BTBAF.
  4. All beneficiaries must display commitment to the sponsored trainings and attain at least 90% attendance for all the lessons enrolled to continue receiving funding by BTBAF for the next term.
  5. Beneficiaries who are unable to attend the sponsored trainings with good reason, due to a medical condition, or important school or special religious events (e.g. examinations), are to provide us with official documentation in advance, wherever possible. Please note that attendance at private functions such as birthday celebrations or participation in one-off special events (e.g. marathons, church-organised leisure trips/tours, or workshops) not organised by BTBAF/LAA cannot be considered as good reasons for non-attendance.
  6. Funding for beneficiaries who are absent for 2 training sessions, with no good reason and notice given one week in advance, will cease and a notification will be sent.

  7. Beneficiaries who have been terminated from BTBAF will have to go through an appeal process should they wish to continue with trainings sponsored by BTBAF. The appeal process will be in the following order:
    1. A penalty equivalent to the cost of training a student for each training session he/she missed must be paid.
    2. A letter of appeal must be submitted to BTBAF. The letter is subjected to the approval of the BTBAF Board of Trustees. Applicants are not allowed to attend any training session until the appeal has been approved.

  8. The management of BTBAF reserves the right to cease funding for beneficiaries., will cease and a notification will be sent.
