The Arts House

Mark your diary on July 6th  for an evening full of promise.

In a generous gesture of goodwill, Dorian Prince, the European Union’s Visiting Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and accomplished concert pianist will give us a gift of his music when he performs at a charity piano recital at The Arts House. The programme line up includes works by Chopin, Mortlemanns and Debussy

The truly global citizen and erstwhile EU Ambassador has always given freely of his talent to the delight of audiences in countries as diverse as Canada, South Korea , Spain, The Netherlands, UK, Germany, France and Belgium.

Collaborating with The Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and The Arts House Dorian has agreed to perform and help raise funds for The Business Times Budding Artists Fund. The” Invitation only” concert hopes to raise $10,000 to help fund the cost of Arts education programmes for economically disadvantaged children with strong interest and artistic potential. The BT BAF aims to raise $600,000 this year to sponsor 500 children for a full year of studies in The Arts.

Dorian Ford Prince

Dorian studied the piano at Trinity College of Music, London and at the Conservatoire in Paris, where he also took lessons with  Jean Courbin. He studied the organ with John Webster, University College, Oxford, with Walter Hillsman and Geoffrey Hansen, Trinity College of Music, London.

While working as an official at the European Union in Brussels, Dorian was organist at Notre Dame au Sablon, the Anglican Cathedral, the German church and All Saints Waterloo. He has given numerous organ and piano recitals in Belgium, UK, Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain.

During his time as EU Commission Ambassador to Korea and then to Canada, Dorian also had many opportunities to perform both as a pianist, an organist and accompanist. He especially enjoyed playing Handel’s organ concerto no 13 and Poulenc’s organ concerto with the Seoul String Ensemble and giving a Chopin piano recital for Korean television. In Canada, he had the honour to give a recital in the basilica in Quebec City as part of the celebrations marking its 400th anniversary.

Dorian has composed a number of works for organ and for choir; songs setting Korean, French and Romanian poems; a setting of the “Ave Maria” in Korean language for soprano, string quartet and organ; chamber music and works for strings, including a “Seoul Serenade”; and most recently a “Christmas Violin Concerto”, performed by Hanwon Choi with the Seoul String Ensemble in December 2007. He is currently working on a short oratorio based on Psalm 22, which is due to be performed in Brussels at Easter 2011.

After much procrastination, Dorian is now getting round to uploading most of his recent recordings onto YouTube, so hopefully, in the near future, if you are interested, you can just google him!
